European countries’ demand for tourism exhibition in Brazil grows higher

The business profile ABAV – International Tourism Expo has conquered in its 41 editions has attracted an increasing number of foreign exhibitors. Last year, companies from 19 European countries participated in the event, which generated businesses of US$97 million on average.

Portugal, Italy, France, and Spain have already confirmed their presence in the 2014 edition, and should occupy an area of 10,000 sq.m. reserved exclusively for European destinations in the Anhembi Exhibition Pavillion in SĂŁo Paulo, Brazil.

From 2012 to 2013, the number of European exhibitors rose 58.3%, and some countries have returned to the event, like France and Netherlands. For the next edition, to be held from September 24 to 28 this year, ABAV expects to attract even more European participants to the exhibition. Representatives of 65 countries are expected to attend the event, figure that would represent an increase of 8.3% compared to 2013.

ABAV Expo, the ideal stage to consolidate businesses in the Brazilian market, gathers local and international destinations, airlines, tourism operators, cruise lines, MICE companies, major hotel networks, independent hotels, car rental companies, and IT technologies for the industry, in addition to areas dedicated to ecotourism and adventure tourism.

Institutional Profile

The 42nd ABAV International Tourism Expo is promoted by the Brazilian Travel Agencies Association (ABAV Nacional), with the support of the Tourism Ministry, the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur), the São Paulo City Government, and São Paulo Turismo (SPTuris), the city’s tourism and events company, which manages the Anhembi Exhibition Park.

An international partner of BTL (Bolsa de Turismo de Lisboa) and ITB Berlin, ABAV Expo, the largest and most important international travel and tourism business fair of the Americas is sponsored by the Brazilian Support Service to Micro and Small Companies (Sebrae) and the National Confederation of Goods, Services and Tourism Trading (CNC), which manages one of the world’s largest social development systems—the Commerce Social Service (Sesc), operating in the education, health, culture and leisure fields, and the National Commercial Learning Service (Senac), which is the leading professional education agent in the goods, services and tourism trading sector.
